Regularly scheduled car maintenance keeps costs down and car problems at bay. In fact, if you want to avoid problems with another auto repair, diagnosing car problems and taking preventative steps through scheduled maintenance is an excellent way to avoid those problems. By comparison, car maintenance costs are almost always dramatically lower than the cost of repairing car problems, and a proper car maintenance program is invaluable.

 Car Maintenance and Recalls
Another benefit of regular vehicle maintenance is discovering recalls. For instance, during Ford air conditioning maintenance we might discover that your 1999-2001 Ford Windstar with rear AC needs to have a jumper wire installed to prevent a potential blower motor fire, or that your 2004 Dodge Caravan has a faulty replacement master cylinder which could cause your brakes to fail.
Every year hundreds of recalls affecting hundreds of thousands of vehicles occur; recalls that most people are totally unaware of, and many of which are very serious. Every vehicle manufacturer has problems that result in vehicle recalls. For instance, in August 2005, GM recalled 804,000 1999-2002 model year vehicles that had fault affecting the anti-lock brake systems on seven different models. This one problem alone had caused over 200 crashes. In the seven months prior to that recall, GM issued 24 other recalls that affected 3 million vehicles, and in the first seven months of the prior year issued 30 recalls that affected another 9 million vehicles.
Clearly, trying to keep on top of every recall is a fairly extensive task. At PJW Automotive, our software notifies us of recalls instantly so that we can inspect your vehicle to determine if it's affected.
Car Maintenance and Problems
Car maintenance costs are minimal compared to the costs entailed in replacing failed parts, especially when those failures can result in the loss of use of your vehicle when you need it most or even result in an accident and possible injuries. With scheduled car maintenance, problems are frequently discovered before they become a something that you're even aware of, meaning that the cascade of problems that often occurs when one part fails and impacts other related parts is avoided.
Just as important is the peace of mind that you can gain by knowing that your car problems are largely a thing of the past. Having a proper car maintenance program is a key element in having a reliable car, truck, or SUV.
Car Maintenance, Car Problems and Complex SystemsEvery year motor vehicles become more and more sophisticated with ever-more interactions between components and with ever-more-detailed settings and balances required for correct operation. Even when you solve car problems, questions can still remain about all the related systems that may be affected. As an example, were you aware that the reason that cars no longer have carburetors is because it was determined that at least four separate computer systems would be needed to meet the ever-stricter emissions requirements for catalytic converters? Unfortunately, changes such as these make at-home maintenance more and more difficult, challenging, and expensive.
Even auto mechanical problems are no longer the simpler problems of days past. Most mechanical systems, even those as simple as seat mechanisms, now have sensors and electrical components to monitor and control operation and handle normal and emergency situations.
