 Automotive Repair Diagnosis Help
Today, problems with that Ford Focus or any other car require advanced equipment and a level of knowledge and experience that most people don't have time or interest in developing. That means fixing your car, truck, or SUV - and even keeping it maintained properly - often requires the knowledge and expertise of someone who knows all the little ins and outs of your car.
Even when you can go online to find automotive repair diagnosis help, it often doesn't show you everything you need to look for. There's nothing more frustrating than being in the middle of disassembly while working on car mechanical problems and suddenly finding that something else is missing or having something break while disassembling. Such information sources also don't explain just how time-intensive and frustrating it can be to fix car problems, especially when you may not have the specific auto repair tools needed. Auto repair is definitely not the same as it used to be.
Complex Vehicles Have Complex Problems
Let's take the fuel system for example. Older vehicles used a carburetor to handle fuel delivery in cars and trucks, and you may still hear people refer to carburetors in discussion. The last carburetor sold for a new vehicle was in 1990 on the Subaru Justy. Now the automotive fuel injector is the standard. In fact, most autos now use multi-port fuel injectors - one for each cylinder.
Another example is the transmission. Traditional automobile transmissions used actual physical gears - interlocked wheels with teeth - to allow you to apply the right torque; this allows your vehicle to go much faster than if you only had a single gear. At first you had to switch these manually with a manual transmission. As time went by the automatic transmission was developed, but it still used gears. Some of the newest cars have now eliminated the gear entirely; they use a pulley system in a continuously variable transmission, or CVT.
With regard to electrical issues, the advent of computers; airbag, ABS, and seat sensors; and electronic control systems has caused some of the most extensive changes in automobile electrical systems. For example, while the Honda Accord is generally a reliable car, there have been several recent Honda auto electrical problems. For instance, in the 2003 and 2004 Honda Accord the electrical problems include issues such as a false "Check Engine" indicator and ABS warning light, Sunroof/moonroof electrical switch problems that prevent full closure, defective airbag sensors that may come on if a laptop computer is used in the front seat, and a faulty driver's seat sensor that may cause an airbag to deploy incorrectly.
Because the electrical systems are so pervasive in modern vehicles, many models of vehicles have similar or more extensive problems, simply because the systems are so complex and involve so many interactions with other components.
As you can imagine, an auto repair mechanic from 50 years ago might have a difficult time even imagining what some of these new innovations do.
All this boils down to the fact that today's cars, trucks, and SUVs are complex interconnected machines that need to have every element in tune with every other element. As time goes by, this trend will continue to develop, requiring more advanced tools and greater technical knowledge to keep your vehicle running at peak performance.
